Living with greater independence is possible with the right support alongside you. Our Supported Independent Living service in Saint Albans gives NDIS participants practical, day-to-day assistance in a place they can call home. Whether you need support with personal care, household routines, skill building or overnight assistance, we build your support around your goals, your preferences and your NDIS plan.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that provides assistance to people with disability who live in a shared or individual home. It is not accommodation funding itself. SIL covers the support provided in the home, such as help with personal care, cooking, cleaning and daily routines.
SIL is designed for participants who need regular support to live as independently as possible. That support can be available during the day, in the evening, overnight or across a full 24-hour period, depending on each person's assessed needs and NDIS plan approval.
Participants using SIL remain involved in the decisions that shape their daily life. We work around your routine, not the other way around. Your choices about how you spend your time, who you spend it with, and how your home runs are always respected.
SIL can be provided in a shared home with other participants, or in an individual home where you live alone. Both options are available, and we work with you, your family and your support coordinator to find an arrangement that suits you.
SIL may be a good fit for people who:
We provide hands-on support with the personal care tasks that are part of everyday life. This includes:
Our support workers are experienced and respectful. We follow each participant's preferences for how and when personal care is provided.
A comfortable, well-run home makes a real difference to daily wellbeing. We assist with:
Where possible, we involve participants in these tasks as an opportunity to build confidence and capability over time.
Building practical skills supports greater independence in the long run. We work with participants on:
Saint Albans has a vibrant local community, with shopping along Alfrieda Street, community centres nearby, parks and easy access to surrounding suburbs including Sunshine, Deer Park and Keilor. We support participants to connect with their local area through:
For participants who need support beyond standard daytime hours, we can provide:
We keep the process straightforward so that participants and families know what to expect at each stage.
Initial Conversation
We start with a relaxed conversation about the participant's situation, goals and support needs. There is no pressure and no obligation. This helps us understand whether our service is a good fit.
Support Needs Review
We look at the participant's NDIS plan, funded supports and any relevant assessments. We work closely with support coordinators and plan managers throughout this stage.
Personalised Planning
We develop a support plan tailored to the participant's daily routine, preferences and goals. This is a collaborative process that involves the participant and, where appropriate, their family or guardian.
Service Agreement
Once everyone is satisfied with the plan, we formalise it through a clear service agreement. We take the time to explain everything before anything is signed.
Ongoing Reviews
Support needs change over time, and we review arrangements regularly. We welcome feedback and adjust our approach as goals or circumstances evolve.
We know that families and support coordinators play an important role in the SIL process. We make it a priority to keep communication clear, consistent and respectful throughout.
We work collaboratively with:
We provide regular progress updates, participate in planning meetings and coordinate promptly when a participant's needs change. The participant always remains at the centre of every decision we make.
If you are a support coordinator looking to discuss a referral or a current client's transition to SIL, we welcome your call.
